The all-new Mazda CX-5 enters its third generation with a clear mission: evolve a proven formula without losing the character that made it one of the brand’s global best-sellers. Building on more than 4.5 million units sold worldwide since its 2012 debut, the latest CX-5 refines Mazda’s signature design language, enhances interior comfort and technology, and deepens the brand’s celebrated “jinba ittai” driving philosophy.
Positioned as a compact SUV for modern urban and active lifestyles, the new CX-5 blends style, usability, and efficiency in a package that feels more mature, more spacious, and more connected than ever before. In Germany, it launches with a recommended starting price of €34,500, with showroom arrivals scheduled for late 2025.

A Stronger Design Identity
Design has always been central to the CX-5’s appeal. As the first Mazda to fully embody the Kodo design philosophy alongside Skyactiv technology, it set the tone for the brand’s modern era. The third generation retains its familiar silhouette but introduces more confident proportions and a stronger road presence.
The wheelbase has been extended, and the vehicle is now 115 mm longer, 15 mm wider, and 30 mm taller than its predecessor. A higher front section and broader stance give the SUV a more planted look, while muscular wheel arches and widened bumper openings emphasize stability.
At the rear, the track width has been increased and bold “MAZDA” lettering replaces the traditional badge, reinforcing the SUV’s modern identity. LED lighting graphics have been redesigned for a cleaner, more technical appearance. Depending on trim, wheel sizes range from 17-inch alloys to 19-inch diamond-cut or black finishes.
The guiding design concept, “Wearable Gear,” reflects the idea of a vehicle that fits seamlessly into everyday life—refined enough for the city, yet capable and practical for weekend adventures.

A More Spacious, Refined Interior
Inside, the new CX-5 embraces the Japanese aesthetic principle of “Ma,” prioritizing space, harmony, and simplicity. The cabin feels wider thanks to a strong horizontal dashboard layout that stretches from door to door.
Passenger comfort has been significantly improved:
- More rear legroom and headroom
- Wider rear door openings for easier access
- 61 liters of additional cargo capacity
- Lower lift-in height and flatter load floor
- Flexible 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench
Material quality has also been elevated. High-contact areas are finished in durable black surfaces to reduce visible wear, while higher trims introduce genuine leather upholstery in black or tan. The top-spec Homura grade adds ambient lighting with seven color options and a panoramic sunroof for a brighter, more premium atmosphere.
At the center of the cabin sits a new infotainment display measuring 12.9 inches or 15.6 inches depending on trim, paired with a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster and an upgraded head-up display projected onto the windshield.

Powertrain: Larger Engine, Mild-Hybrid Efficiency
The third-generation CX-5 launches in Europe with a newly optimized 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G 141 petrol engine, replacing the previous 2.0-litre base unit. Producing 141 PS (104 kW) and 238 Nm of torque, the naturally aspirated four-cylinder is engineered for smoother, more confident everyday performance.
The larger displacement improves low- and mid-range torque delivery, enhancing urban drivability and overtaking confidence. The front-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 10.5 seconds.
This engine is paired with Mazda’s 24V M Hybrid System, which includes an integrated starter-generator and regenerative braking. The system works alongside new brake-by-wire technology to improve energy recuperation and braking efficiency, while also reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Cylinder deactivation further enhances efficiency under low-load conditions.
A recalibrated six-speed automatic transmission ensures smoother shifts and improved responsiveness, maintaining the direct throttle feel that defines Mazda’s driving character.
Customers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and Mazda’s i-ACTIV all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The AWD setup works in harmony with G-Vectoring Control Plus to optimize torque distribution during cornering, enhancing stability and steering precision.
The CX-5 also offers towing capability of up to 2,000 kg, broadening its appeal for active lifestyles.
Driving Dynamics: Refined for Europe
Mazda has retuned the chassis and suspension specifically for European roads. Softer springs, revised anti-roll bars, recalibrated dampers, and new tires contribute to improved ride comfort without sacrificing handling sharpness.
Rebound damping has been increased to provide better body control during cornering while maintaining composure over uneven surfaces. Steering response and pedal feedback have also been refined for more intuitive control.
Seats have been redesigned to better support the pelvis and maintain a natural spine position, reducing fatigue and minimizing head movement—especially beneficial on long journeys.
Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) have been reduced through additional sound insulation and an updated engine equipped with a balancer shaft, resulting in a quieter and more refined cabin experience.

Connected Technology with Google Built-In
The new CX-5 marks Mazda’s first integration of Google built-in, transforming the infotainment system into a fully connected digital hub.
Key features include:
- Google Maps with real-time traffic updates
- Google Play for in-car apps
- Google Gemini (AI assistant) support coming soon
- Customizable home screen with up to five widgets
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (from Centre-Line)
Higher trims benefit from a 12-speaker BOSE premium audio system, while an 8-speaker system comes standard.
The MyMazda App extends functionality beyond the vehicle, offering remote locking, vehicle tracking, service scheduling, and multi-user profile management.

Comprehensive Safety Suite
Safety remains a cornerstone of the CX-5. The latest model introduces an expanded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, including:
- Updated Smart Brake Support with enhanced traffic jam detection
- Blind Spot Monitoring with cross-traffic support
- Driver Emergency Assist with automatic controlled stop
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control with curve anticipation
- Lane Change Assist (highway use)
- Emergency Lane Keeping
- Proactive Driver Assist for smoother deceleration
- 360° View Monitor with see-through functionality
These systems work together to enhance awareness, reduce driver workload, and improve real-world safety performance.
Trim Levels and Availability
The new Mazda CX-5 will be offered in four trims:
- Prime-Line (FWD only)
- Centre-Line
- Exclusive-Line
- Homura
All grades feature the 2.5 e-Skyactiv G 141 engine with mild-hybrid technology and automatic transmission. Equipment levels range from well-specified entry models with LED lighting and digital displays to the fully equipped Homura trim with ventilated seats, adaptive LED headlights, and the larger 15.6-inch display.
With its more assertive design, significantly improved cabin space, upgraded hybrid powertrain, and expanded connectivity features, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 strengthens its position in the competitive compact SUV segment.
Rather than reinventing itself, the CX-5 evolves intelligently—delivering more comfort, more technology, and more refinement while preserving the engaging driving character that has defined it for over a decade
