Volvo Upgrades EX90 Flagship EV With 800V System and Faster Charging

Nearly two years after Volvo first revealed U.S. pricing and specifications for the EX90, the company’s electric flagship has now rolled into the 2026 model year with a handful of noteworthy updates. Importantly, several of these improvements will also be extended to existing 2025 EX90 owners.
The most significant change is the adoption of an 800-volt electrical system, replacing last year’s 400V architecture. This upgrade enables much faster charging, with the ability to recover up to 155 miles (250 km) of range in just 10 minutes. Volvo also notes that the new system provides better energy efficiency and increased performance, although the brand has not yet disclosed exact output figures.
For comparison, the outgoing 2025 EX90 features a dual-motor setup with 402 hp (408 PS / 300 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. That configuration delivers 0–60 mph in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). Both available trims—the Plus and Ultra—share the same 111-kWh battery pack and standard eAWD system. Buyers looking for more power can opt for the Twin Motor Performance model, which raises output to 510 hp (517 PS / 380 kW) and cuts the 0–60 time to 4.1 seconds.

The 2026 model also debuts a connected safety alert feature, designed to warn drivers about slippery roads, obstacles, or accidents ahead. If the driver becomes unresponsive, a new integration of Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) with automatic e-call can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop within its lane. Once stationary, the EX90 will connect to a Volvo call center, which can then contact emergency services on the occupants’ behalf.
Other additions include expanded automatic emergency steering functionality in low-light conditions, a Park Pilot Assist system capable of parallel parking, and an electrochromic panoramic roof. On the computing side, the crossover now runs on a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, enhancing overall performance and safety systems. Current 2025 owners will be able to access this upgraded hardware free of charge through Volvo dealerships.
Volvo has confirmed that orders for the 2026 EX90 are now open, though pricing details were not mentioned in the latest press release or listed on the company’s U.S. website. For reference, the 2025 EX90 Plus starts at $81,290, while the higher-spec Ultra trim begins at $85,640.
